CALLIGRAPHY 1: The Art of Beautiful Lettering
Thursdays, May 23, 30, June 6,13
6-8 p.m.
Ages 9 to adult
Join this class for an introduction to calligraphic lettering, to learn a new style of calligraphy, or to brush up on your skills. The focus of the class will be mastering the basic calligraphic strokes, training the correct posture of the hand and the relationship of pen to paper, and becoming successful in creating the magiscule and miniscule letter forms of an "Old English/Blackletter" calligraphic alphabet. In his fast-paced and
fun method Mr. Roundtree uses examples and demonstration followed by individual guided practice. Classes are held on Thursdays, starting April 23 and running through June 13. In addition to the class fee, the following list of items will need to be purchased and brought to the classes.
Supply List for CALLIGRAPHY 1:

Minimum of three wide black or dark colored calligraphy markers.

You may choose to bring other sizes/colors of calligraphy markers. (!!Calligraphy Markers Only!! No pens that require india ink or ink cartridges!!)

Copier paper (It's cheap and works the best for practice.)

Ruler (Preferably ©Thru Graphing Ruler in 12" or 18" size.)

ENGAGING THE IMAGINATION: Drawing Class
Explore and engage your imagination in the process of drawing! Each class will begin with an explanation of a concept and approach to drawing. Concepts to be explored are making space and depth, constructing a landscape and collage. Open to all skill levels.
Classes are held on Saturdays and run from April 6th through April 27th from 1 - 3:30 p.m. at Council Bluffs Community Hall, 205 S. Main Street.
Class fee is $34 ($30 for Bluffs Arts Council members) plus students will need to buy these materials and bring them to the first class:
Packet, of assortment of drawing tools, a variety of graphite pencils, (about 3 pencils). Charcoal pencil, eraser, sandpaper and sharpener. Approximately: $8.99
Pad of Drawing Paper. 17" by 14" for dry medium, Strathmore or Bristol. Approximately: $16.99 - $22.99

CREATIVE COLLAGE
Enjoy the freedom of creating art using mixed media. Learn basic composition principles and expand your creativity! Your project can be theme-specific or you can let the project develop on its own. The results are amazing! You will come away with a piece of art that is as unique as you are. Please plan on bringing one photocopy of a picture you might want to use in your collage and learn an exciting technique for transferring images.
MOVING INTO CHARACTER: Improvisation for Performing Arts
Instructor: Reo Jones
For adults ages 16 and above. The one-time session, entitled Moving into Character, will focus on the foundations for creating original work. Performance requires a strong foundation of body and mind awareness. This class will combine various movement techniques with character building exercises to strengthen that awareness. This introduction to physical theater is a great way to engage your creativity in an open nonjudgmental atmosphere.
Class fee is $15 ($13 for Bluffs Arts Council members). The class will be held at the Council Bluffs Public Library on Thursday, April 5th, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Parking is free.

NEW BEGINNINGS WATERCOLOR Instructor: Pam Cates
Note: There will be an AFTERNOON CLASS SESSION (2:30 - 5:00 p.m.) and an EVENING CLASS SESSION (6:00 - 8:30 p.m.); choose one of the series when registering below.
Whether you have never picked up a brush, just need to brush up or evenif you are coming to watercolor from another painting mediums, this is the class for you. Make a new beginning with watercolor. Basic watercolor techniques are taught in a step-by-step approach with lost of practice pieces and in-class demonstrations by instructor Pam Cates. Students will gain a fundamental understanding of the painting and what it can do. A finished painting will be completed by the end of the class series.
Class fee is $95 ($87 for BAC Members) and includes a kit of materials; students may be asked to bring some things from home after the first class.

WATERCOLOR FOR KIDS - Instructor: Madalyn Bruning
Students will explore various methods in watercolor painting that are both explorative and fun. Landscapes are the main focus of this workshop with participants creating at least two paintings.
Class fee of $12 (BAC Members $10). Students are asked to bring watercolors and a tablet of inexpensive watercolor paper. Community Hall in Council Bluffs, 205 South Main Street.
POSITIVELY PEWTER - Students will design a jewelry or key chain pendant that will be cast in pewter. First students will create a design to be transferred to a plaster block for carving, then, after carving, the piece will be cast in pewter.
Class fee of $24 ($22 for BAC members) includes pewter and plaster.

HANDMADE ART JOURNAL- Get ready to play! Learn how to combine collage, painting and bookmaking techniques to create a unique, textured and colorful art journal. Art journals can be used for writing, painting, drawing, poetry, scrapbooking, collage - the possibilities are endless! Great for a one-of-a-kind gift! Attendees are asked to bring texture materials such as bubblewrap, wallpaper samples, mesh, rubber mats, bottle caps, etc. - anything that can make a texture in paint. Also bring other collage materials such as photocopies or magazines.
Class Fee is $28 and includes class materials (BAC Members $25). Instructor: Sue Kalicki
MERRY MELODYMAKING -
Ages 3-5
Instructors: Cheril Lewis & Shelli Iness
FREE MUSIC FUN FOR KIDS! Be ready to make music! Students will be introduced to a variety of music and percussion instruments and actively partake in creating their own melodies! Energetic and enthusiasic fun for little ones who will learn while they play.
NOTE: This class is FREE, but please register for each date you'd like to participate.

Adult and Me Ceramics
Share a learning experience with your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, little brother, little sister. The Bluffs Arts Council is offering a Hand-Built Ceramics Class for adults and children ages 8 and up. The six-week session will teach students to hand build a pinch pot, coil pot, and slab pot and animal sculpture. Class fee is $59 ($55 for Bluffs Arts Council members) for each child and includes all of the materials. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
